I was invited to a spectacle which, when spoken in French, sounded to me like speck-tack. Though pronounced differently, the spelling is the same in both languages. Spectacle is a word used for a show or performance. This show was a dance recital that included my cousin Lisa. I was impressed with the professionalism of the production. It was held in a theater using a professional lighting and sound system, not the school gym or a church auditorium. The first half of the show used popular music and featured contemporary dance including hip-hop. The second half of the show was more interpretive and included dancing by the instructors.
