More of Strasbourg, France

These small dormer windows are typical of Strasbourg architecture.

This man was out walking his donkey.  Why?

A family of swans on the river.

Strasbourg is the seat of the European Parliament.  This is their building.

An Île River cruise is obligatory.  Wear a hat and take an open boat.  The air conditioning is inadequate in the covered boats, and the glass intensifies heat from the sun and ruins photo opportunities.

The Bridge of the Ravens
During the Middle Ages, this was the place for executions.  Murderers and adulteresses were put in a sack while still alive and thrown in the river.  Other criminals might be locked in a cage and left on display for a few days before being thrown, cage and all, into the water to drown.

Petite France
The Petite France is a historic quarter and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  The name comes from the 15th century hospital for the syphilitic which was located here.  Syphilis was known as the "French Disease."

This was our waiter at L'Ancien Douane.  He was quick to inform us that Alsace is not French, it's Alsace.

I had Bibeleskäs Garni.  It is Alsatian smoked ham, fried potatoes, and white cream cheese (which is similar to sour cream).  It came with red onion, horse radish, and chive garnishes.

Mike discovered Fischer, his favorite Alsatian beer, at L'Ancien Douane.  When he ordered a small beer, our waiter's comment was, "Big man, small beer, not normal."
