What's a Kermesse?

A kermesse is a festival.  The word originated in the Dutch language and, according to my dictionary, was borrowed by English and French speakers.  I was lucky enough to attend the end of the school year party at my cousin's school.

Every girl wants to be Elsa.  Every boy wants to be Spiderman.

It wouldn't be a fête without barbe a papa (Papa's beard).  We call it cotton candy.

Cousin Lisa doing a little angling.

It took some skill to guide the ping pong ball along the dotted line.

While the girls went for games requiring manual dexterity, some of the boys enjoyed a good old fashioned pillow fight.  The object is to knock your opponent off the bench.  No hitting in the face, please.

The music was good, and lots of the songs were sung in English.

Dads the world over are the grill masters.  You could have your wiener plain or on a baguette.

There were at least four kinds of mustard and this taste of home.
