Our first day in Vegas was clear and sunny. Most of the rest were dull and hazy because the air was filled with dust. On our way back from Valley of Fire (and on most of our road trips), the car was buffeted about in the wind. We could hear the grains of sand stinging the sides of the car. We saw tanker trucks spraying water on the powdery earth. I wasn't very happy about breathing filthy air for two weeks, but dust in the desert is not surprising.
What was surprising were the tumbleweeds. I hadn't expected to see them everywhere. Check this out:
