Neon Boneyard

It's not all casinos.  There are a lot of museums in Las Vegas.  We skipped the Brothel Art Museum (one tasteful semi-nude on our bathroom wall is enough for us) and the Mob Museum (saw that on a TV show).
The Neon Museum or Neon Boneyard was worth the $18 admission price.  The visitor center, which opened in October 2012, is the restored lobby of the La Concha Motel.  The guided tour winds through an outside storage yard of Las Vegas' retired neon signs.  The museum complex includes a shady park with picnic tables and a second storage area (off limits to the public) for more signs.

The park is across the street from the visitor center and main exhibit.

The mid-century modern style of the visitor center goes perfectly with neon.

Our guide Sean had appropriately colored hair - neon green.

These days workers change bulbs using a cherry picker or by rappelling from the top of the sign.  In the old days, they grabbed these metal posts and hung on for dear life when they changed bulbs.

Walking like an Egyptian.
